How to not impress this particular visitor

I had a referral from [c4.com...] the other day and looking at it they have a good way of irritating first time users.

Try it, search for something you know will be found.
The effect is even worse if you are using Netscape.

I wont say what it is here as I want to know if other people share my impression of it :)

What a terrible search engine! I went and searched for a term that gives me first page rankings in almost all directories and SE's and they didn't even have it.

It is also horribly slow, did you notice that? I know it's not from me, or my connection.

I thought pop-ups where bad enough but at least you can close them and I'm sure that the message seemed to be hangin around forever!!!

The first search for me was fine, but the second search had an 'intermission' type message which is similar to what probably took go.com out of the game "Did you mean music?" (at least for me that was the real killer for go.com)

Why would they think that people would choose a search engine that deliberately slows itself down?

I'm not sure what their strategy is, but perhaps somebody is listening...and will make things better.

I keep thinking to myself, if only the engines would pay more attention to their user base...they could really learn something.

The speed of that site is definitely an issue, although that image next to the meta results is a cool way to lend the other companies more branding. And I don't see how that search engine has any value added to my surfing experience. This is a little esoteric, but for myself, if I am not getting something out of it I can't get elsewhere, I'm not going back.
