Excite likes short pages?

How much preference does Excite give to short pages?

My experience says that shorter pages rank higher on Excite, but can anyone tell me whether it's page length or some other factor (keyword density) that makes short pages rank higher? Or is it just that the best SEO's usually just create shorter pages because it takes less time, and their pages rank better?

The reason I ask is that long sales copy generally leads to more sales. If Excite and other engines really prefer short pages, this leads to a bit of a challenge in optimizing a site.

Any comments?

Excite is perhaps the original theme engine, don't optimize individual pages, rather treat related pages as a unit for keyword weight (5-7% is about right), and "put up walls" so that it does not consider non theme related pages to be part of the grouping that make up a keyword theme.

I think all the off-the-page stuff is weighting heavy on Excite these days. Linkage is really growing in importance. And short pages do seem to be the rage at all the engines right now.

Also, would't this lead the engines to assume that the short page is a doorpage?

In the past few days I've come accross several indications that engines like and give high rankings to short pages, for example
excite and google is another one.

However, I was wondering what the definition of "short pages" is. Does this mean pages with small file size? Short text?

Any clarifications on this would be appreciated.

Brett agree with you regarding weighting being given to linkage.

Am also finding popular sites climbing to top positions in the industries I monitor. Reckon that the revolutionary click thru technology that they bandied around about 8 mths ago (ala direct hit) has had an effect on results for about the last three months.

I have one of my sites in Excite for about a year. Every index, more pages get added and traffic improves a little. I have tried to get my other sites in with no luck. In order to facilitate getting the others in I have put links to the site maps of 2 of these sites on the index page of the site that Excite has indexed. Will Architext follow these links and index the the new sites? Thanks all.

2-Much, short is very short. Under 10k or less. Pages in the micro size of 5-8k are ranking very well on google right now.
