do people actually use it for searches?

I've been messing around with blogs recently (well, I have to put my collection of cat photos somewhere ;-) and have been poking around services like technorati.com .

While I find it quite interesting, I can't find any information on whether it's of any practical use for actually generating traffic (as opposed to being a mutual navel-gazing exercise for the inhabitants of the blogosphere).

Anyone know of any figures, studies, metrics etc?

This subject is taken up at a class over at berkeley, check out
"Mon, 11/21 Searching the "Live Web" Blogs, RSS, etc" at
[webcast.berkeley.edu...]

Hmm, does anyone know how technorati and othes define a blog? is it simply a page with an RSS/ATOM feed?

a mutual navel-gazing exercise for the inhabitants of the blogosphere

But that also may mean other bloggers linking to your blog - and that could lead to lots of traffic

it's pretty darn popular..

It would have to be to support the staff they supposedly have as well :)
