As it happens the two has historically coinceeded. Things that work for real users are just as great for SEs.

Then again, I guess with all that they sell, the optimization could come in handy for them. One sees the Big name and tends to forget what all is entailed with a site like theirs.

I'd venture to guess that around 30% of their traffic comes from search engines. It would be very silly indeed for them not to have somebody to look after it.

*lol* that surely sounds like a money for nothing job - with raw material like that just about anything will be a piece of cake :)

On a more serious note - as the biggies start to get more involved in this field you guys that run the smaller enterprises will get a hard time. I do see a trend coming although it's still somewhat rare for a major portal to do this, and even more rare for big media, but they will do it at some point.

It's not just Amazon, but their family of sites, which includes the Imdb, one of the worst optimized sites on the planet.

Classic example of no person who is qualified to do the job should do it. Either create tens of millions of dollars of value for a insignificant salary, or make millions yourself doing it yourself. Duh.

This question was raised due to a number of sites commenting on Amazon's poor URLs since about 2 weeks ago.

I trust this came to their attention, and it DOES make sense, they shouldn't let their service fall back.
