Is Alexa.com (specifically the ia_archiver) worth allowing or is it an automatic 403? It seems to be spidering a lot of pages but has anyone seen any worthwhile traffic?

Yes alexa is worthwhile. Have you visited their trafic history charts? Can be quite an ego boost (or deflator)!

Nah. :) My ego is big enough and I can barely afford the bandwidth charges as it is. There are over 80K webpages on my site and alexa.com does not bring in any traffic worth speaking about.

Banned them a long time ago and have not missed being able to look at old copies of my sites. I have back up copies in the drawer if I want to see how silly they looked 6 years ago.

Can be very useful if you need to take action (DMCA) against someone who's copied from your site... can be used to show your "first use" and also how long the copier has been copying.

In order to reduce bandwidth, simply decide which pages you do and don't need to have archived for this purpose, and set up your robots.txt file appropriately.
