I have a quick question I would really apreciate if someone would answer. Is the Lycos paid inclusion worth it?

Myself I wouldn't consider lycos as a serious search engine.

I still think Lycos could be something, I would suggest they do something with that site design.

They really need to take a look at their services, as it looks like they are the same as every other search engine/portal. Just nothing stands out about them for me. I'm sure someone there could think of some cool ideas for their clients/users. They really need a brand new attack plan.

What is their current state in the SE wars, are they still a player?

Lycos are effectively dead - 0.2% of search engine referrals for one site last month!

Also, I had a call from a company yesterday selling banners on Excite UK. £499 a year for a keyphrase on a search engine with even less traffic than Lycos...

I'm getting 500-700 hits a day on my main page.
I've been watching my access_log files closely, and cannot remember ever seeing a Lycos referral. -Larry

It's a shame that a brand like lycos just kind of died overnight, I remember the all adverts, and it wasn't that long ago since I saw one either.

Maybe that's why they died, no brand advertising, couldn't stay in the race without it. It's a real shame.

Although I never used Lyco's engine, I liked the name as it sticks in my mind, but I commented on another thread about engines suddenly going under, and I think it's wrong to let something like Lycos just die without doing something with it.

Where is the fight from them? Or are they lying dormant as I think they got taken over?

They were bought by Daum Communications this year, but this deal excludes Lycos Europe.

Bought for $12.5 billion, sold for $105 million ;)
