Is it breeding season on new search engines?

AnooX seem to think it's got something revolutionary up its sleeve, with users being able to vote search results up or down, on a "one man, one vote basis per key word." The reasoning behind this is that the result will be more accurate, because a majority vote almost always generates more accurate results when compared to a machine generated result.

To find out what the site looks like, you can head on down to anoox.com, but the search function is not yet publicly available. AnooX has said it will open to the public on the 31st November this year.

Would you believe I found another one? This one is a dental search engine. I'm not even going to bother to post any urls.

The voting model definitely isn't going to work. Another proposal on their website is that they plan on sharing profits with their voting members. Reading the fine print and they state they won't issue a check until the accumulated amount is 100 dollars or 100 euros. I bet that aspect won't last either.

In a nut shell the goal of AnooX is to pass Billions of Dollars in search engine value to you (search users, advertisers, web site owners) rather than making a handful of Silicon Valley & Wall street insiders Billionaires.

That's hilarious- I like these people!

LOL -- anyone who uses improper English to write paragraphs is not really that serious (no, I'm not an English teacher, but I would have things checked before posting them).

Also -- their "profit" model doesn't state how little (or how much) their "employees" and "consultants" are to be paid in salary -- taken off before "profits" are distributed. They also confirm that they can change their "non-profit" status at any time, as they deem necessary -- ie, if we ever get popular, then we'll take what everyone gave us and make a fortune off it. If they were serious about being non-profit, they'd be filing for 501c3 status.

This looks like something dreamed up in the middle of the night by a couple of lawn mower salesmen.

The English has a foreign tone. My guess is they're Asian.

I don't get the feeling that they're not serious about this though.

How much cash would it take, to set up a brand new Meta Search?

Are these guys serious about making a difference or are they in it to make some easy money?

Yeah right! Either it is a typo or these guys have as much of a clue about the search business as the calendar. Forgive me for being cynical but the Google flotation has spawned a lot of me-too operations.

The way it is offering to trade advertising space for hosting space/bandwidth would tend to indicate that it is either underfunded or has no plan.
