I know this one has cropped up a few times, but was looking at Comet Search earlier and couldn't work out where its results are coming from.

I know previously they've been from Google, and then apparently ATW.

I've compared its SERPs with GG, ATW, Teoma, Inktomi (PT) and Yahoo, and still can't find a match.

They have got some nifty technology in place which provides "related links" to other SERPs relevent to the sites returned in the original SERPs, which seems to be a little Teoma-ish.

Anyone know any more?

My guess is the SERP results come from their scumware and the paid results come from Overture. But, since FindWhat bought them I imagine the SERP will still be from the scumware but the paid results will be from FindWhat.

<added>I went there for the first time just now and I see results for pages that are *years* old. They must not have any crawlers at all.</added>

Seems reasonably up to date to me. We talking about the same thing .... [search.cometsystems.com...]

Yep. That's the one. I think it's that way because of the scumware. The pages I looked at I know are old and don't exist anymore or have changed considerably. They are not visited very often and I'm guessing no one who visited them anytime recently had the scumware installed. Just a hunch but that would explain why some pages are updated in the SERP and some are not.

What are those rdre1.intktomi.com/click?u=http://www.. URLs in their results. If you search for very popular kws, you get these kind.

I'm not exactly sure. My guess is that these were the old inktomi results pages but they don't exist anymore since the Overture deal. Just a guess though.

FindWhat just bought comet systems for 33.5 million in cash and stock.

Deal hasn't closed yet, probably will be another month...seems kind of like an odd play.

Guess they're now doing anything they can to play with Overture

Just got an email back from them.

Apprently results are coming from inktomi/yahoo, which would explain the ink' redirect URL in the SERPs.
