Hi Matt

Well you would say that, yes and I'll give you that, it does work very well, I know you don't want to give away the store. But abit more information would be great.

Does it use Keyword around links, PageRank and something new :)

It indexes all your meta tags.
You can also perform fielded searches over your own custom meta tags, too. There's more about this at [gigablast.com...] . I think gigablast may be the only one that does that.

Like everyone else, it also indexes link text.

I'm working on several ways to speed up the query response time, too. I generally try to keep everyone uptodate on what's happening behind the scenes on my blog at [gigablast.com...]

For what it's worth matt, I don't consider the response time to be obviously slow. Keep on rocking with your efforts all the same.

Nice job, matt. GB rankings for my primary sites (checked 4 sites) are the same or very close to both my G and Y slots, so I'm impressed with the algo.

Blog links are a big topic in some circles, and I notice that GB may be impacted as well. I'd be interested in your thoughts on if/how the proliferation of off-site linking technology has forced you to make adjustments to your algo.

Does it use a form of page rank, link pop?

No. It doesn't.

Although, I can remember, before Gigablast got updated [gigablast.com], it used a formula called "Gigaboost" which gave your pages a boost, if you linked to Gigablast. Well, not exactly boost, but if for example results clash, instead of choosing a random one to go first, it chose the one which links to Gigablast.

The page, still exists: [gigablast.com...]

But I couldn't see any pages linking to gigaboost.html except for the previous blog entries.

Matt, does the whole feature still exist of is it dead?

Hi

I don't think that gigaboost as much to do with how gigablast rank pages. What if you don't have a link :)

Plus I don't believe it get it's great results from just keyword in pages, because if so you would get a lot of crap doorway pages in the index.

I would say that it is using link pop for ranking but I would like Matt to say one way or the other :)

seo2004wow, I said Gigaboost was just a formula that would help Gigablast in ranking clashes, I did not say that its a major factor in the algorithm.

All search engines don't work (with what you call) "link pop", PR is a good thing Google has, but its certainly not the most major factor in the search results. Every search engine gives first priority to keywors listed in the page, meta tags, title and url, they then give second priority to their own forumla (ie. Google = PR, Gigablast = Gigaboost).

I can't recall any search engine using "link popularity" as its second priority, all though - many do, but haven't seen any of them admitting it.

Hi

As you can see from this interview with Matt that Gigablast.com does use "link pop".

Does anyone know other things GB looks for :)
