This sounds like competition to Froogle and Yahoo shopping?

Yes, that's what it sounds like to me also.

"A9 says its software will be aimed specifically at online shoppers, not users who want to perform general search requests for things such as sports statistics or news."

Wonder if they'll make that available to AWS developers?

I hope it wont be like froogle.

Our company sells equipment on a quote basis.. we dont show prices. Thus out products never get listed in froogle and whatnot.

With all of the vendors that already sell their stuff via Amazon Shops (or whatever it's called), Amazon will have a nice chunk of internal data to mine to help launch this shopping search engine ... just like Yahoo can mine its Yahoo Stores.

And in both cases, it encourages businesses to use Amazon's shops or Yahoo's stores -- inclusion in the shopping search becomes yet another carrot to hold out in front of a business owner's nose.

I'm assuming there are a lot more businesses using Yahoo stores than using Amazon's equivalent, but does anyone know for sure?

The bigger picture is that we have Froogle, Yahoo's Shopping Search, now Amazon joining the fray, along with places like MySimon and Shopping.com (formerly DealTime) and others ... consolidation coming soon to this growing industry?

looks like a half-harted attempt. They are basically out to protect themselves from search-engines. So they're setting up a SE where their products will come out tops.

Jeff, stop trying to hijack the internet.
