Is it too late for Any search engine to beat Google?!

I was just wondering , If any search engine CAN beat Google , I mean ATW has come close to beating it but Google flew off and now has 5 billion , when ATW reaches till 5 billion, Google will have more... This will go on and of course Google will be the best search engine.

And I think MSN's new search can't beat Google because Google has worked "at it" for 7 years and now this new MSNbot comes along and thinks it can beat Google AFAIK , MSNbot has only been "at it" for about 1 year or so.

So any search engine's can beat Google but they need time , as Google keeps rising up and 1 of the most advantage Google has is the time, 7 years...

I'm not meaning in Traffic or richness in the search engine's but in the size and quality that google has.

I think MSNbot can only beat Google if it has a different , unique , better technology and any search engine can beat Google if has a different fast web crawling technology.

(Its all IMHO)but what do you guys think?

The same thing was said about other search engines when they were top dogs. The same thing was said about Netscape and Mosaic browsers. Of course Google can be beat. The amount of time doing SE doesn't matter at all. Google came from nowhere and took over the market. The same thing could very easily happen to them.

As for size, who cares if it's 3 billion or 5 billion. As for quality, I think they have gone downhill myself.

I personally think that if microsoft wanted to, which they may do in the future, they could absolutely flatten Google.

Alltheweb did come close and I think that with more marketing to the average user, they Ścould be/can beŚ bettter than Google.

Google definitely can be beat.

MS can easily embed SE into windows. And Joe Average will use it instead of Google, because it will be more convinient.

That is probably , because Google hasn't updated the index page...

Try a query for the keyword: "the" (without quotation) and it will return with 5,220,000,000 results , keeping in mind that this is only for the query "the"

Is there any pressrelease or statements from Google backing this up? On the difference between the www and the www2 server on this guery is 2 billion!

It's a bug, has been happenening on & off.

Last month, Brett said he saw, "90 billion" pages returned for some query.

Should we go & say then that Google has surpassed the 90 billion mark? Hardly.

Believe the number on their home page, if you care too. They could be lying about that one, but who knows?

Who ever scoops them up, will have a great shot at dethroning Google, provided they do the rest of it right.

In addition, there is always Yuntis - take a gander at them, very nicly done, university research project as well, starts at the same "root research" that the Google founders leveraged.

For a company like Google, they should not lie about it, and anyway this is not just an "Ordinary" bug, and any search engine researcher can notice it, I think they should fix it.

The way Google has been consistently adding quality and features on a truely international scale, market share wise, I'd say Google can potentialy only be beaten by an embedded MS-Windows search.

If I had money to spare I'd buy long-term put options on Yahoo.

Watch Google IPO before Microsoft launches its embedded Windows search.

Quick reply, no it will never be too late in this instance and in any other.

Dominance is "never for all time" or Ghengis Khan would still rule large parts of the world, or the Romans, Rockerfeller, IBM, various empires, name your preference etc ..

Personally i think Google is inviting the competition at the moment - it's not the number of pages indexed, it's about what gets returned to the searcher.
