On looking at my site traffic in Alexa I see a few spikes over the last six month but no continuous graph. The figures look good i.e my 3 month reach is up 338% but I dont have much idea how accuarte this is since I only seem to provide a reading once in a blue moon.

Any idea how I can ensure that i get a 'continuous' reading of my traffic from Alexa?

Steve, your Alexa data is probably choppy due to low traffic volume. Alexa data isn't highly reliable due to it only measuring visits by Alexa-equipped users. I wouldn't worry about trying to get better Alexa data, just focus on building traffic you can measure in your logs.
