Seek advice about ad fees

I have a blog with modest site traffic (200K unique visits/yr) & use Amazon ads & Adsense as part of my blog. But I've never been approached before by individual advertisers seeking to place ads.

I ignored one guy who wanted to place an ad for a year for $40. But someone just approached me suggesting placing an ad for $200 on my main pg. or $30 on individual post or category pgs. The only issue I have is that he's saying they'd be lifetime ads. I esp. can't see running an ad forever on my main pg. for only $200.

I'd like to hear fr. folks with more experience doing this what they think about the issue of how long an ad should run & pricing.

For a site with near equivalent, well-targetted traffic (18k uniques a month), I have one advertiser who pays $40 a month for an ad, on one page (not the front page).
