Getting Declined in CJ

Right off the Bat...

Hey,

I tried applying to a program in CJ today, and was declined right away. The aff manager didn't get to review my app or anything, as a new window came up right away and said I was declined.

What types of things generally cause this? (BTW I have emailed the aff manager, and am awaiting his reply).

Never happened to me, and I've joined a few dozen programs. The only thing I could _guess_ at is that your site's topic (you know, when you checkmark the most appropriate subject) isn't in the 'approved list' for the merchant. That, or the merchant is denying everyone.

Could be low EPC or network earnings. There are some that screen on that but don't know of any that auto decline apps.

Some advertisers are not accepting any applications at this time. Check to see if that was the case.

It did to me many times since my site is a non-US base. I bet you have the same reason.

Hopefully this is just for today...

I have tried 3 different merchants now, and they all declined automatically. Here it is straight from the horses mouth...

"Your application has been declined by this advertiser for one or more reasons. If you have a question please contact the advertiser through advertisers detail page within the account manager."

Also one of the Merchants I tried wasn't related to the programs I want in for, and it automatically declined to, so I am thinking that maybe this is only going to go on for so long.

I am agreed with From Rockey,

There must be some criteria related to geographic location of traffic. Advertiser selects publisher based on traffic! I suppose....

I applied for more than 100 program and declined by 10 to 15 out of that. I think they are loser in this case unless its a high paying CPC program.

You guys are right on with your logic. CJ Advertisers have the ability to auto-deny publishers based on the country.

A company I worked for in the past had several fraudulent transactions coming from Russia every day, so the affiliate manager banned all new applications from Russia.

I am in Canada and get auto-declined for many. If there are terms of service, it will often mention specifics regarding country of residence. Since my traffic is about 95%+ American, I have sometimes sent an email to the affiliate manager for the company, and been manually accepted.

Another reason is due to licensing. A US franchise cannot accept an affiliate from Canada since it is belong to a Canadian franchise. This is unfair practice for AM since 95%+ of his/her traffics are from US, not Canada.

I got declined by a weight loss company because I am based in Australia. Everything about my web business is US based. I suspect the rejection was due to franchising restrictions. I wrote to them explaining the US nature of my sites and specifically asked why they rejected me and all I got was a marketing speak letter back saying almost nothing except that they may change their minds later.

If I got a genuine reason for refusal I would feel a lot more positive about the experience.

Contact the advertiser and explain your situation. Advertiser do want to hear from their Publishers and they do make exceptions to their rules. They also want to automate the ability to prevent fraud and one example of that in action is auto rejecting Pubs based on their location. It may not be the best policy but it's one that works.
