My Banner Ads Not Converting

Hi I am a web publisher with a site that is a wallpaper and photo gallery about celebrities.

We we get 6000 impressions a day and started placing banners on the site for Dating services.

I am noticing that I am getting an industry click through rate of about half a percent 0.5% but so far getting 0 conversions.

This is simply a pay per lead, all the user needs to do is Fill out his / her name, state, zip code, and email. Does sound like there is any confidential information

I am curious why people are clicking on these ads and seeming to lose interest. The only explanation I have is that the Dating ad and the fact that my site is for downloading celebrity wallpapers doesn't match up well.

Is this possible? I haven't had experience doing this but I wanted to know if others have seen this happen, that is they place a banner ad on a website, get decent click throughs but see a ZERO sales or leads b/c they place there banners on a random site unrelated to the theme of their product.

My first guess is that if this were to happen you would get ZERO clicks and ZERO conversions but not a decent click rate and zero conversions.

The tracking is in place and I am assuming is fine as far as i know with reporting so i think these numbers are correct.

Do the dating services you're advertising let you date celebrities?

If not, I'd say it's probably not a good match for your site.

Try things that are celebrity related. Posters may be a good match for your audience. If I want a picture of [name of celebrity] on my desktop, I might want a poster of her/him in my rec room too.

now THERE's a service!

lol. like the man said, I don't think the dating and celebrities thing is a match, posters, er...other photo sites (heh) or fan sites might be worth a try.

or make a deal with some celebrities to go on some dates with your site members. I can pretty much guarantee you'll get converstion then. ^^

Well Firstly, I have to be very outright with you.

I think Banner Ads are a terrible way to market. I have experience with terrible CTR and even worse conversion no matter what the niche.

My text ads are getting a CTR of 3% greater and conversion is 1.5% greater.

I really think no matter your niche.... text ads preform better than banners.

Yes, text ads are far more effective as a means of increasing CTR.

You should also be aware that even within a particular niche (such as dating, or posters, or whatever), some sites will convert for you and some won't. Just because this dating site you're promoting isn't converting, doesn't mean that another dating site from a different sponsor won't.

But yes, I agree that you could probably find something more on target.

promote something around the theme of your site (posters, CDs or downloadable music, DVDs)or something that your audience is likely to use and pay for without thinking much (ringtones?).
