Is embedded content factored into page updates?

Instagram for SEO

Firstly I hope I've posted this properly, I'm still a little unsure of the new format.
So I'm considering embedding my Instagram images on my home page. The theory is that I update Instagram more often than I will ever update the general page content. It increases my page size but doesn't affect the overall speed that much.
Good idea? Bad idea?

From a SEO point of view, I doubt it helps, eventually, it can improve your Instagram profile, ... and you know,... one day,... Instragram will outrank your site :)

Now the question is, is it useful to your visitors ? Does it make sense? Is it legitimate? If "yes", then do it.

Yes embedding Instagram posts is great for Instagram's SEO. As Dimitri pointed out above it wont be long until Google puts Instagram ahead of your own website.

I care less about my Instagram as I do my main website. I'm a pro wedding photographer, so Instagram is semi-useful, but its not even close to my top lead generator.

Then I would recommend limiting what you post to Instagram and focus your efforts on your own website.

I think you would benefit more from actually finding a method to update your website. Your instagram should be encouraging people "towards" the platform where you have complete control of your message (your website) as opposed to presenting people with the option to move "away", where you are then in competition for their attention.

Think of all the other things people can look at once they leave your site to go to the instagram, facebook, or twitter platforms having clicked on a handy link you present to your hard-won visitors on your own site using an embed tool kindly provided by those said platforms.

Cynical....you betcha

Reach out to your audience wherever they are....but then bring them to you.

@Lazewebdev I fully agree, the unfortunate reality is that platforms such Instagram employ this strategy to their own benefit. This makes it is extremely difficult to get users to go from Instagram "towards" an outside property, thus putting into question to using these platform at all as means of promotion.

@nickMNS Interesting insight. I have often wondered "why am I doing this" I still don't really know... I know the younger generation is on Instagram now more so that FB but Instagram seems to be less organized and less structured towards hitting your local audience.

JPshots. Do both things. If you want to promote yourself do it and do it hard, in all the places your audience is. Yes it takes more effort but promoting a business does take effort. Watermark your images on instagram. Make sure people know where to find you. If it turns out, after 6 months that instagram isn't working out for you, try somewhere else. Hell try everywhere at once - you will just need to sleep faster (thanks Arnie S.) and then cull the bad performers.

Even youtuve recently tweaked their embed code functionality. Whereas before you could turn off "show related videos" with an embedded video player it will now show other videos potentially from the same channel or that users own playlist. Click one...boom - youtube opens in a new tab.
