Question

I have a site which now is a blog and at some point I want to turn into an e-commerce site (when there is enough traffic). In the meantime, I want to apply from google to be considered a news source, as to appear in google news. If I do become an "official" news source, what happens later when I start adding products? is that status taken away from me?

please let me know..

thanks!

the first hurdle is getting recognized as a news source. G has radically changed what they consider "news source" and "authoritative" ... particularly in the run up to 2020 in the USA.

As for advertising ... that should be no problem.

Switching to ecommerce MIGHT change things for you later.

But your most immediate problem is achieving "news source".

If I do become an "official" news source

Like @tangor said, achieve this first, and then we'll talk about what to do next :)

However, "if" your idea is to be accepted in Google news, for later turning your "news" into products' promotion, that might not be a good plan, or at least highly risky... :)

Like others are said, your first objective is to become an "official" news source. What exactly are your credentials that you feel justifies you for becoming an official news source? AFAIK, "blogs" rarely qualify unless run by someone applying traditional journalism principles like original investigative reporting, validating sources, and double-checking "facts" stated by sources.

Yes, becoming an official Google news source will be tough - nigh on impossible these days. Find your people/audience and become a source to them directly through feeds, emails or other medium.

I think Google will ban you immediately after switching from News to Products. Because this is heavily misleading and Google won't give it a second thought, I am sure.

If it would happen; hundreds of people already started trying to do so. :)

The current traffic on your site will have nothing to do with when you turn your site into an eCommerce site. If you want to sell products, different audience needs to be targeted, if you want your site to be an "official news source" then let it be, but do understand, it can be either news or e-commerce you can't have both of them.

If you actually get into googles good graces and become a listed news source, do NOT jeopardize it by selling products. I would suggest creating a sub domain and keeping the news / shop separate.

news.yourwebsitename.com
shop.yourwebsitename.com

BUT, I do see lots of spammy and complete trash news sites and posts listed in google, so maybe google will love you? Who knows these days.
