We all know what the Google guidelines are about linking out to so-called bad neighborhoods.

Has anyone ever had an experience, or read a case study about what happens?

I'm working with a site - call it 1234.com that has thousands of links out to places via numerous inappropriate and even illegal anchor words linking to sites who's products and services would easily get me banned here.

Of course, 1234.com also has tens of thousands of good inbounds.

When we successfully remove them from the site and the Google Index, we should see something happen. Right?

But what exactly?

Presumably traffic and ranking will increase, possibly substantially.

In all my time here and elsewhere, I've never read or heard of a case that actually documents this.

Everyone talks about what "can" happen.

Has anyone actually experienced what "does" happen?

Looking forward to hearing what people have to say.
