At Google Performance Summit last month Google announced a number of major changes to Google Adwords. These included "expanded text ads" in Google search with more characters and "promoted pins" on Google maps which shows the locations of offline retailers on the maps via Adwords.
Both of these seem to be in some form of 'beta testing'. I know a very small number of larger agencies / advertisers have been given the ability to start using longer / expanded ads with the Adwords interface, for instance.
I understand from Google that these new developments will be available to all or most advertisers in Quarter 3 or Quarter 4 this year. Does anybody have any greater insight into when the expanded text ads and promoted pins may formally go live to most or all advertisers?
As a secondary question for the PPC experts out there, what do you think the impact may be of these two developments?
