Google - Follow Your Own Rules

I've noticed something over the past few weeks that is extremely disturbing for many reasons.

The adwords blog contains a high level overview of Google's new product, "Comparison Ads" at the following url: [adwords.blogspot.com...]

Okay - so the gist is, Google is now a 10,000 LB gorilla affiliate marketer, working directly with mortgage lenders.

So... what that means, in this particular case - is that on google's whim - they can use all of the data you've provided them over the years to simply replace you overnight.

Just do a google search for any mortgage term...

They are showing their ads above all other paying adwords customers. Then, to make matters worse - they are bringing them to a review style landing page that would receive a quality score of 1 and be slapped immediately if it were owned by anyone other than google.

Additionally - apparently relevance is another rule that google doesn't have to follow when they decide to compete with you for your job, using their search engine.

Example: google the term "cash loan"

This is a payday loan term - these people are not looking for mortgages. Googles ads are not relevant by their own standards. Neither the ad copy, nor the content of the destination page would warrant a high quality score - yet it displays above all other ads.

This should scare the hell out of anyone in the sales business, both online and offline. If this is a sign of things to come - prepare for google to become the USA's internet equivalent of WalMart. Your job could be next.
