over the last few weeks i slowly crawled from nowhere up to #2, and stayed there for one of my main keyword searches. tonight i checked and i'm at #87!? WAYYYY below far less relevent sites!

other pages with other keyword searches are still ranking OK, it's just this one term that's dropped (my big money-maker) ..

is this normal in MSN? do they give some sort of penalties or something? I changed my Title and H1 text a day or two ago.. could this have been what caused the drop?

Exactly same thing happen, my site main keyword ranking on 6th till last week, now dropped suddenly to 168th position and rest of the other keywords ranking not changed.

Home page body text changed to Bold text for important sentences.

Yes i did the same change and my ranking was slightly lowered in SERPs from #1 to #6. When i restored the old H1 and title tag i was back in my top position.

One more thing i have noticed on MSN is that they do give more importance on how your inner pages are linked to your homepage. Did you do any such changes in internal linking?

i've noticed that same thing about inter-linking (that's how i got to number 2!) - and i havnt changed anything..
I cant change my title back to the way it was, so i guess i have to ride-it out..
I assume that over time, i should creep back, but it's like i'm starting over?

MSN still seems very unstable - even thogh it's been more than a year since launch.

On saturday, my site disappeared from the serp for my major keyword, it didnt appeared till 25th page and the sites which were on first page with me also loose their position and some other sites (which were on the bottom of the serp) were on the first page for this keyword. But that was just for 48 hours. on monday I was back on my original position and today the site has climbed up on the serp.

Guess some that was temporary blip and/or some work is going on.

Jeez, I think I have the worst story.

I read the article about this thread on seoroundtable literally right after I added a new H3 tag at the top of my page containing my keyword in a headline.

This is no exaggeration.... literally less than an hour later I went from the #1 spot for my keyword to completely gone.

When I do a site:mydomain.tld my site is still in the index with all of it's pages.

Weird it's like MSN has an ultra-paranoid H tag setting so if anyone tries to manipulate their rankings with an H tag you're immediately penalized.

I'm estimating about about $25 to $30 in losses per day as well because of this :(

"is this normal in MSN?"

Yes. I am surprised here when people post stuff like this since for key terms moves of 7 to 63 to 12 happening in the same week are the norm.

last night, before my eyes, within the space of an hour, i went from #87, to #85, then #84.. then about 2 hours later, #83.
This morning i checked and i was up to #7!

Hopefully by monday morning i'll be back to my rightful spot of #2 or if i'm lucky, #1 ..

I never thought i would rely on MSN so much, but a huge part of my traffic and earnings comes from THIS particular page and MSN search traffic.. I'll never say anything bad about MSN again!

" I'll never say anything bad about MSN again! "

I hate MSN!

Seems that now i'm stuck at #5 for over a day.. 3 out of the 4 above me are semi-irrelevent to the search-phrase.. And Microsoft think's they're going to beat Google? i doubt it..

my domain name gets 4,000 searches a day on msn, and now has completely vanished. I'm already seeing surges in searches from google and yahoo.

Makes me wonder how long people will use msn if they manage to lose one of the top 20 sites in canada.

My homepage just dropped out of MSN.

--after further research it looks like msn has two results in there for our homepage now...
www.mysite.com
www.mysite.com/index.htm

Not good. Might be a dupe penalty now that they accidentally indexed the front page with two different urls?
