My client was bidding on one keyword only - [blue widgets] (exact match) with a 19% CTR over 7 months but couldn't break into the premium positioning. Today we added "widgets" (broad match) to the ad group and was immediately #1 in the premium position for this keyword.
How is this possible since there is absolutely no history for "widgets" in my campaign? Is CTR based on the ad group and not the keyword? "widgets" is a competitive keyword. I can't understand the logic.
