Is this likely to influence my rankings?

have a look at the source of one our pages (see my profile) and you'll see that the top 60% is JavaScript for the drop down menus etc.

Is this (because it essentially moves the content further away from the top of the document) likely to be effecting my ranking?

If so, any ideas of how to get round it? How about a js include file?

Thanks in advance

Yes, I'd say that much code will hurt you. It's not just the JavaScript, but also inline styles and image map links.

I see that there are already some calls to external js files for some of your JavaScript. You could also move the some of the css for the drop down menus into external files (the div definitions, for example).

That Javascript mouseover code is software generated. I'm sure that there's a simpler way to get the same or very similar functionality. Along these lines, it would be highly desirable for the links to be in text, rather than image maps.

The little bit of true text you do have might be positioned absolutely so you can move the HTML for it to the top of the BODY section. It's got to carry the bulk of the weight for this page's rank, so making sure the kws are in there matters a lot.

The page looks real nice, but there's not much there for the SEs, as you're probably guessing.

Thanks. We had to knock that site out quite sharpish so DW3 did the menu's for us. I am now working on some SEO and have spent some time analysing key words and referrals etc. I shall upload the new pages shortly.

The menu's definitely need changing and quick as they aren't very browser compatible. Does anybody have any good alternatives (NN4, NN6, IE4, IE6 compat) js files?
