So with one of my latest site, I have a lot of emailing that I do.

It's all double-opt-in subscriptions...all on the up and up.

So far, I have been using a fairly well known company that handles newsletters/follow-up emails etc. but I'm realizing they don't have the flexibility that I really need.

I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a list management application and handling that myself, but am not convinced I will be able to get the same delivery rate as a company who does this as their sole business.

Aside from having to setup an SPF for the site, what else would I need to be aware of? Anyone that handles this in-house, do you find that your delivery rate is as good/better/worse than using a third party?
