webnewton:
In the past, Google used to show a grey bar for new sites it hadn't crawled yet. Now, it shows PR0 instead. You can still see a grey bar if you look at a site that is on our computer, not on the web.

Also someties you can get a grey bar if you toolbar can't communicate with its server. So the page your visiting will show up fine, but the toolbar stays grey since it can't get any information.

I have to admit that I don't follow the external toolbar status as closely as many people here, but I believe that a gray toolbar means that we couldn't find a PageRank for your page at all. That's almost always because we didn't have your page or site crawled at the time that the last snapshot was computed. Usually you only have to wait for the next snapshot, because by that time we typically have found the page.

hope that helps,
GoogleGuy

GG, sorry if I don't agree, but banned sites get greybarred imho. At least I saw that in the last couple of months. Maybe you changed that behaviour?

ThomasB, banned sites dont have a cache (or snapshot) either so accordingly you and GG are both correct.

but they already found the page, if not they can't ban it. And I doubt it will be back in at the next snapshot. ;)
