Too early to tell but it doesnt look like good news for pages set up specifically to bring in link popularity.
ie whole sites being dropped!

Google really had to incorporate something new on this new index. My site went past 30 first results after being on the first spot for over the year. Is anyone else having the same nightmare like me?
I did not make any changes to my site in the past month, I sill outnumber first 30 sites in quality incoming links (sometimes by factor of 10)and I still have all the food that Google liked for the past year.(excluding link farms) It is going to really tough week for me to figure out what I triggerred on this update.

Use your log files to track the update. The files give you a 24/7 window on the events as they happen and how your listings are affected.

Searching is hit and miss until the DB becomes stable.

search the term cnn look at description and the cached page for cnn there you will see the date the page was cached , which is probably the last update.

It appears to be a shuffle (at the moment) rather than an update. I see no new pages but some very different results. For example, typing in my nik does not bring up my main site at #1 but at #16!!?? Yet for other more major search terms I've risen on some pretty competitive ones and fallen on ones that are less so.

I also hope that this is only a shuffle and Google is trying temporarly something new.
I am on 31st position looking by my specific bussines name. Most of this 30 sites before me are sites which are linking to me or sites not containing that business name and sites not even listed in directories. Any of the logic and of my knowledge learnd in this forums about Google ends right there.

This is like a bunch of farmers standing around praying to the gods for rain, but not a flood:)

All my sites vanished about a month ago, and I sure hope the next update brings em' back.

Yep, the update is showing on my SERP now. The cache reflects new code that I put in right after the last update. I'm pulling slot 11 (TSK! Back to the drawing board) out of 182,000 -that seems low, it's usually 300k.

MAN what is up with this update, i have pages from long forgoten days ranking in the top five, they have absolutely zero content just basic doorways, and my primo content rich on the subject pages are getting kicked back a whole page. 11-20 results, they used to rank in the top 8.i have over 60k pages in google, and they all took a hit, i mean i noticed searches in the 101-120 results, unbelievable, never did i think people search that deep, any thoughts on this

nube
That is what keeps me from sleeping for last three days. It is a very different update and I can not figure out why yet. I am just supprised that not many people are noticing that or (I should rephrase). Not many sites are effected by this.

also to add, my link pop went considerably up, and the database is shifting between the last three database crawl updates june 5, may 1, and the one before that, and each time the database changes,as if picking up new algo, also to add one of my competitors who has around 160k pages +
is coming on searches at the top 20 almost all 20 results,
unbelievable, but my traffic from goog droped exactly in half because of this...i think everyone is just sitting on the sidelines praying that this is just a bad dream,, what ever algo for google was discussed here in the forums is very cold.perhaps things like this should not be discussed openly because rite when you think you have it figured out, there comes the monkey wrench.. oh well we have to sit back and have faith, otherwise the fun from search engine placement would be gone,
my thoughts only

Thanks!

Nube mentioned he is getting hits from really deep in the search engines like position 160 etc.
That is interesting as i am seeing the same too from various sites, but before if you werent really in the top page or pos 11 and 12 you didnt really get any hits at all.
If this is the new google algo (which i doubt very much) there is some very UNrelevant sites coming up for different phrases, so i believe google either made a big mistake or are trying out something new.
Could possibly have something to do with the new image search they are trying, lets all hope there is a quick update pretty soon like there was a while back (3 weeks :)
If not its back to the drawing board...but if you look hard enough you always find what you are searching for!!
Glad to hear its just not me

I don't think Google is stable yet... but nonetheless the algo changes are fairly profound.

From what I can gather from my own sites, the ones that have fared well:

a) Have little content
b) Have quite a few outgoing links (high ratio link/content)

My heavy content low outgoing link sites have fallen, but the others have climbed. Pagerank does seem less of an influence than it previously was.

A bit too early really to have any certainty, but this currently seems the pattern for me. Whether it will remain so is anyones guess.

For me, the moral of the story is to have a range of different page designs/contents/link-nos. If I had used the same throughout, would have been doomed as opposed to neutral.

napoleon, you are on the money, the sites which i have in yahoo stayed the same, the ones in dmoz took a hit, the doorways with least content but keywords climbed to the top five, cant believe it,
