Now they have rented a virtual dedicated server with the same host, at the exact same data center, and with the same IP address as before.
For some reason, now it can take a very long time for the pages to load. I'm talking upwards of 30 seconds, and occasionally the browser will time out with "Looking up <orgname>.org" in the status bar. The other half of the time, though, they load almost instantly as they used to. Looking at the traffic stats I can see they are losing a lot of visitors due to this issue. Even though the site mainly consists of a brochure/general information, it is not an acceptable situation because the forum has suffered dramatically. Ironically, it was the forum that necessitated the move.
The only difference between the old hosting environment and the new one, is that they now have private nameservers. The old ones that the host supplied were ns.<host>.net & ns2.<host>.net. Now they have private nameservers that are set as ns.<orgname>.COM.
Even though the .com is not used for anything, I loaded the exact same files from the .org website onto it temporarily and found that the pages loaded instantly every single time. This leads me to believe that it is some kind of configuration issue, but I'm not sure what exactly.
Could it be slowing things down since the nameservers are now .com rather than .net? If so, is there any way to fix this? Do I need to add extra DNS entries or alter them in any way?
It is driving me mad because this is not the first time I've run into this exact same problem, and I never figured out how to fix it.
Any help would be appreciated.
