Jim Nabors dead at 87 [rollingstone.com]

Although a lot of people knew him for his role on the Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle USMC, he also had a fantastic singing voice.

Well gooolly!

He had a flamboyant reputation around North Hollywood. Never met him but know those who did.

I was amazed when I first heard that deep, mezzo-tenor voice of his after hearing him speak for a couple years on the Andy Griffith show.

I am related to him on my Fathers side. My father's sister married a Nabors in Alabama and I grew up listening to stories about him. All said he was a kind man that never let his fame go to his head. A true southern soul that knew were his talent came from. Unlike most of our actors now he lived a life to the fullest.

Shook his hand in Vegas back in the 80s. Nice fellow, whose "regular" voice was nothing like his Mayberry character.
