Can we feedback about changes that have already happened? I come on here to look at the Google updates thread and the homepage says that Matt Cutts has said something about it. Whoopee - but click on that and Matt Cutts can not be found. Vanessa Fox is on there towards the end saying interesting stuff. I'll work my way through to find out what Matt said.

But the post in pink at the top of every page isn't relevant to the thread. Are we supposed to reply to that? If a thread has got past page one it has become a discussion. In my mind that's the good thing about discussion forums rather than something bad. If the question hasn't been answered the opening poster can always post to say "what about me" but often the discussion will help the opening poster work out what they should have asked in the first place which can be more valuable to them than any direct reply.

For those of us that bother with multiple page threads we've now got the last post we already read on the previous page and the OP post to ignore before we get back into our reading.

First post repeated on every page...

More contrast please...

I kind of like this idea, but the color is so close to the normal cpost color that I can barely tell the difference, and that makes it a bit confusing.

the joys of partial color blindness. :)

But the post in pink at the top of every page isn't relevant to the thread.

But the belief is that it should be.

Are we supposed to reply to that?

Again, I think so. The idea being that we should remain on topic. If the correct question wasn't asked in the first place then that's a bit tough!

I actually quite like the idea of the OP repeated on subsequent pages. As to the style... unfortunately no CLASS is used, so it makes it hard to apply a custom stylesheet (although I do find it OK).

For those of us that bother with multiple page threads we've now got the last post we already read on the previous page...

However, I can't say I'm a fan of the last post on the previous page repeated on the next page.

My God - The first post repeated on every page Is Pink! Tthen that finally explains what they were talking about in another thread of Feedback Days when someone remarked on the new pink and green colors (the green around my own posts I noticed, I've been looking for the infamous pink and couldn't find it, until this thread directed my attention to it - It's there, I swear, it just looks alot like the grey! :) Hmmm, is this really a color vision issue? Oh Oh. Well, may I suggest burlywood. Or perhaps thistle. No -wheat, that's it ! (Well, wheat or peachpuff).

commanderW,

Yeah, it looks grey to me as well.
My Dell Studio 17 display has a narrow viewing angle, and it changes the colors if I'm not within 30 of center.

How about a gold gilded border around the OP?
Perhaps a Las Vegas chase-light marquee?

I think Brett's intent was to keep the OP at the top of multiple pages wandering strangely (as they seem to do) to drag the thread back to topic. I'm a bit surprised some of the smarties here have not noticed the "words were the same" while reading through.

Brett, may I suggest that in multipage threads that not only is there a color specification but a secondary text line for the color blind that says (something like) "Original Post, Please Stay On Topic"

We both know that won't work. All of us, me included, are afflicted with diarrhea of the keyboard, instantly loaded to shoot off mouth, and more than willing to stray off into personal agendas. This is the ONE thing that needs to be fixed, Brett, and there's no freakin' (insert other favorite explicative) way to do this with code or even the mods, who are doing a freakin' good job.

That said, unless that OP post is really marked that way on subsequent pages, it is confusion squared.

Or may be completely separate the OP with a gap, as I think the 'Featured Homepage Discussion's are?

Hello Tangor - My intention was light-hearted here. I have long noticed that the first post in many forums is the last one from the previous page. All anyone has to do is look at it. I was not trying to make any serious criticism or initiater a frivolous controversy.
( though my suggestions from the 'named colors' was actually a selection of colors that I do believe have practical value).

@subexpression - Dude, you are way too intense. I have known many writers in my life. A persons authorial voice is often way different from their live personality. Maybe you don't know this but you are writing like a troll. Every time I read a post by you it brings me down.
I tried to make a jovial remark and you turned it into a bad trip. Brother, do a body check, please.

I rarely comment on such things and don't believe we should (it's up to the mods - so please remove if necessary), but... I do not get the same impression from subexpression's post. Nothing particularly 'intense', 'troll-like' or 'bad trip' IMHO.

commanderW

Yeah, you got the wrong impression.
I noticed you were joking about "burlywood" etc...
Oh Oh. Well, may I suggest burlywood. Or perhaps thistle. No -wheat, that's it ! (Well, wheat or peachpuff).

But, if I didn't have a sense of humor, I might have taken your quote to be some kind of sarcastic jab or something. But I thought it was funny...so I followed the same vein:

How about a gold gilded border around the OP?
Perhaps a Las Vegas chase-light marquee?

It's cool - sometimes we just gotta take a step back and think about what people are 'actually' saying.

From an opening poster perspective it doesn't much matter to me if this thread veers off-topic. It's fun and it does support the argument that making the first post pink doesn't really stop it from happening, so getting rid of that would be good. :-)

I'm on a Dell 24 inch LCD with billions of colours, and it looks bright pink to me. Maybe I should go back to 256 colours as I can't read a first post with a purple quote in it. Apologies for starting the second page - believe me it's worse for me than it is for you you can scroll past the pink bit but I've got to ignore the green bit too.

Yes, I'm terribly sorry for almost initiating a flame war. Thank you subexpressions for not taking offense. Last night I drank 4 very strong beers (10% alch.), watched a movie and was supposed to go to bed. But then instead I violated one of my own cardinal rules - Never work on my computer while drunk. Worse, I returned to this thread and made a second post while drunk, something I swear I will never do again. Mods, thanx for not banning me for being a jackass. I love code and I don't love starting arguments. From now on I'll keep it that way.

commanderW,

gotta love those strong beers :)

Ever heard of the Gmail Labs app called "Mail Goggles"?
It forces you to solve math problems before sending emails late at night LOL
pretty innovative idea, if you think about it

Anyway, I like posting humorous things to lighten things up. However, it's not the first time I've been misunderstood.

peace brutha
