I understand why you do not want to allow links, however it makes it much more difficult to explain your issue without an example to show someone. The first time I tried to seek help in the forums for a CSS issue, I was unable to get help b/c I couldn't direct people to my website (to actually see the issue happening). I understand many people selfishly promote their own websites, but links are important many times...

Could you not have stickied people the link to your website?

Personally the last place I would want a permanent link to my or my client's sites would be on here. It is not the sort of link I would seek out for promotion work and it could actually backfire on my work to develop a site.

Not at all keen on the idea of links.

For me the lack of promotion on here validates the posts and adds to WebmasterWorld's credibility.

I'd hate to see this outpost of excellence and maturity bombarded by the mess on other forums.
