I think everything should be free, that is the only way forward for the internet. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how the newspapers in the UK fair as they move to paid viewing of their online editorials/newspaper.
I think subtle, unobtrusive adverts are OK, but what could be more beneficial for all, is for people to be able to sell their wares, so to speak, via paid for profiles, probably subscription based.
This is s technical site with specialists offering free advice. Why not help them get paid for it and provide a value added service to your visitors who may need to source an expert at the same time. Karma points, ratings, comments, article links can all add to promoting the best profiles to the top.
They would be even more encouraged to post on the internet, write articles, tips, etc, as it would boost their profile.
The problem with the internet and business today is it is so difficult to know if a consultant or service is bona fide. With ratings, by visitors, people like us, we can at least get an impression of what a consultant or company may be like.
This is definitely the best or one of the best sties/forums on the internet. I would hate to see it change.
