Here is a simple list on what might be implementable and good enough for everyone to like:

I• Either AJAX posting/loading or super fast 'normal' loading.. no waiting
II• Keep the spatial layout, on big screens it's great, on small it's good
III• keep the simple colors, no patterns, only 3 or 4 in total
IV• if images are coming anyway, simple gradients, no gloss
V• no matter the software: NO TECH SHOWOFF, it's a mistake for others to make
VI• keep it about the content, not about the site
VII• access keys & logical code order (page first, nav second, even if it's displayed the other way)
VIII• dashboard-alike system for: non-answerd post of others, new posts, subscribed)
IX• mail support for posting, replying to subscription alerts
X• same cleanelyness as the current space usage (a couple of colored blocks, some text, that's it)
XI• no avatars, just like now
XII• lower subscription fee, add ads to the unsubscribed (only small text ones, like google has, or some other broker)

A few things I came up with :) A smarter nofitication system would be nice but there is no easy way to do that.. RSS, Mail, Specific software, SMS, you name it, it's possible. I don't have a clue on how to picture such a thing, but the built in messaging system is like so many others, just like notifications. There has to be a smarter/easier way..

What I loved en still love is how small each page is!
A few kb, usually less than 80kb! Even a 56k6 modem eats it in two seconds!
