Am I missing something here or is this now just the norm that everyone accepts?

Facebook's "Send" button supposedly allows the visiting Facebook member to 'send' privately the link of the like button to their friends - Facebook members, groups, and e-mail addresses.

It is the last of course that might make this a candidate for replacing a site's own "e-mail this" functionality.

In the course of testing, I find:

1) One testing account sends nice HTML e-mails to the recipient that look identical to the "wall" or news feed layouts, including the social graph picture, title, and description, and of course the link. Okay.

2) Another testing account sends Times Roman formatted messages including only the message typed and the bare link. Less nice but perfectly workable.

3) Oh but send to an e-mail address which Facebook doesn't recognize (no FB account attached to it), and the message consists of a big blue FACEBOOK banner, the message, and then a horrible facebook.com link which sternly instructs the viewer "A Facebook account is required to view this page".

I further tested this by signing the test e-mail address up for an account, and re-sending the message - bingo, it gets a nice little message and direct link.

A brief search online finds a distinct lack of outrage concerning this.

Am I the only one?
