While watching my screens I was seeing suspicious activity in Analytics, a user or users from the same small city in the US (coffee-ville) getting page after page in a somewhat random fashion. I went to the logs to find the user's ip and trace it. It turned out to be Bing bot according tot he UA and the IP tracing. I found that bizarre since I was sure that bots were being filtered from my results in GA. So I double checked my GA settings and found that bot filtering was switched off. So I switched it back on and Bing-bot was gone from GA but still happily crawling the site.

The switch-on of the bot filter had a small but significant impact on the numbers reported. But over the past few days I am continuing to see a decline in traffic. This drop is significant if it is measured from my peak, which occurred a few days before I switched-on the bot filter. Does the bot filter take effect retroactively? Does my peak include bots?
