Why Hulu has LESS value than Tumblr?

Tumblr seems to be independently generated content where people would aim for high quality content whereas Hulu seems to be mostly Hollywood propaganda with the intention to aim as low as possible in terms of content quality therefore Tumblr's ability to generate and share real content would naturally fetch a much higher value.

I believe, despite their permissions and policies, it's easier to own something regarding a community VS videos who already have a very strict copyright scheme, my two cents.

They don't have a YouTube but a Hulu could be used to build a YouTube as it has the infrastructure and apps in all the phones, tablets and TVs.

If you were gearing up to do battle with Google and G+, this and Tumblr might be two components you need to build your own social network assuming they don't bungle the transition which Yahoo has been famous for doing.

I still don't even know why Yahoo is still around as they've often lead the pack in many things which are now old, outdated, not maintained, and overall a big assed embarrassment on the web.

Going to Yahoo these days reminds me of going to Grandma's house when I was a kid and you have no choice but watch Lawrence Welk or Barnaby Jones on TV if you want to watch TV.

If they are ( as you speculate they might be ) "gearing up to do battle with Google and G+..then the battle with G+ is already won..

tumbleweed (the content and "action" in G+ )..as against ( the content and action ) in tumblr..

This might annoy Larry a liitle ..but tumblr was too "edgy" ( with the Pron and all ) to be "buyable" by Google who like to portray themselves as squeeky clean and cuddly enough for kids to take to church..

G will index it..show it in SERPs ..but just like no adsense on anything with "adult or near adult" content..and safesearch being default on Google images in the USA..

Google would not like to own tumblr..at least not in a way that could be traced directly back to them*..

However, as far as a battle with Google goes..Hulu ( a very much USA phenomenon, tiny penetration elsewhere ) ..as against Youtube..a worldwide behemoth..?

Larry won't lose any sleep over Marissa buying that one..He could let Yahoo bleed red ink after the purchase and then buy Yahoo and all it owns in 3 to 5 years from now ( maybe the FTC and even the EU would let him by then ) from a single quarter of net profits..

*Marrissa buying tumblr may actually be a way for Larry to get it ( at arms length ..and after a short wait until he can get it with Yahoo, or Marrissa brings it all home and into "the fold" )..but then tumblr could empty as fast as flickr is doing..

The next best thing to buy for Google is WordPress. Tumblr is nothing comparing to it.

I agree with those who stated that Hulu will allow Yahoo to leapfrog YouTube. Quality over quantity. YouTube aspires to become a paid streaming content provider but Hulu is miles ahead. Take a look at Hulu's content partners [hulu.com] then contrast that to YouTube's mob of booger eaters [youtube.com].

Hulu will allow Yahoo to leapfrog YouTube. Quality over quantity

YouTube and Hulu have their own markets. Hulu has quality content sourced from from many major names. YouTube has a lot of 'long tail' content. You can find a video on almost anything. If Hulu has to become YouTube, it would be better off launching a new brand, leveraging its existing resources than cluttering its site with millions of pieces of user generated content.
