Friday, billionaire private equity investor Carl Icahn indicated that he was quitting the Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO: News ) board of directors. In a letter to Yahoo's board, Icahn said that he was leaving since Yahoo does not need any activist director.
Icahn sounded very amicable while departing. The activist investor stated that the move was in order to enable him focus on other companies and would not have time for the business and affairs of Yahoo.
Icahn thanked those who supported him in his pursuit of the Microsoft proposal, most notably bringing Carol Bartz, the current CEO of the company, to Yahoo and then consummating the search deal with Microsoft. He said the Microsoft transaction would provide great long term benefits, the potential of which many still do not understand.
