Yahoo Inc is shutting down GeoCities

Yahoo Inc is shutting down GeoCities, a free service that hosts personal home pages for consumers, which it acquired for more than $4 billion 10 years ago during the heyday of the dotcom boom.

This is going to be a real PITA for directories that still have a lot of links to Geocities sites out there.
Althought Geocities had a lot of crap, we're going to lose some good content as well, POOF! all gone.

Yeah, and some of the webmasters whose pages go poof won't even know what happened, at least not for a while.
And who knows how many links to those pages will go bad without any effort to find a new URL for the content.
I just ran a check and I have 27 links to content on geocities pages that I'd rather not delete.
Maybe I'll contact those webmasters and ask if they have, or are p[lanning to build, a new website.

I just put a new site up on Geocities in the last 6 months. It still works good...and it's still free.
