The Yahoo-Carl Icahn saga is entering a new phase. Yahoo said Thursday that it appointed Frank J. Biondi Jr. and John H. Chapple to its board. Their appointment, which had been expected, follows an agreement last month under which Mr. Icahn ended a proxy fight to replace Yahoo’s entire board in exchange for three seats on an expanded Yahoo board. Mr. Icahn was appointed earlier this month to Yahoo’s 11-member board. Mr. Biondi is an experienced media executive who was president and chief executive of Viacom and chairman and chief executive of Universal Studios. He serves as senior managing director of WaterView Advisors, a private equity limited partnership focused on media and entertainment. Mr. Chapple was chairman and chief executive of Nextel Partners, a wireless carrier that was acquired by Sprint in 2006. He serves as president of Hawkeye Investments, a privately owned equity firm focused on the telecommunications and real estate sectors.
