Blogging website for others

Msg#: 4674167 posted 10:50 am on May 24, 2014 (gmt 0)

I would like to create a blogging website for other people, based on Wordpress. They could sing up, select their subdomain name (it would be good if they would be able to add their fully qualified domain name also), and start adding posts.

It would be good if I could add any of the Wordpress plugins / themes etc. Is something like this possible? I think it should be, but I am not sure if something like this is readily available on the Net. I was looking at Buddy Press, but I am not sure if this is exactly what I need (it is more like a social blogging software, like Tumblr, and not regular blogging site).

What would be the best way to do it?

Thank you.

Have you looked at the multisite settings? [codex.wordpress.org...]

This is exact reply (my) from another forum:

I know that Multisite is what I need, but I guess I would need to have the front end, so people can sign up and create their own subdomains etc. They would need to be assigned to certain publishing roles etc (I would the the main admin with the most privileges).

a) Front end so people can register and add their own domain
b) This domain would need to be added to the Wordpress configuration, possibly domain mapping plugin as well.
c) People need to be assign to a certain user role authomatically (author - somebody who can manage and publish their own posts etc)

I would install the plugins that would be available etc...

I am sure it's been done before and many times etc... I just could not find anything about it on the net... I am not sure if a genral Wordpress plugin (or theme) would do it. It needs to be redesigned in php, I think.

Thank you.

Buddypress is where I'd start.
