WordPress v3.8 is in the works - Due to be released in Dec 2013. Here are some of the items the development teams are considering and working on.

A new admin interface. 4 Proposals will be reviewed soon. https://make.wordpress.org/core/tag/3-8-proposal/

A new default theme (of course): 2014. [make.wordpress.org...]

The widgets interface looks a lot like genesis framework.

One thing I'd like to see moving forward is an option to turn things(everything) off. Auto updates are fine for most but there really needs to be an off button, same with many other features such as the ones filling up my database with dev rss feed data I don't particularly want. Adding new features is great but making them optional, ie: easily turned off, would be even better.

Fair enough. Do you have a top 5 or 10 list of items you'd like the option to turn on/off?
