Wordpress Site Throwing Really Weird Errors - Lots of Them

Awhile back it was reported that if using Disqus with Wordpress - there was an issue with Google indexing the comments in a weird way that it was causing crawl errors.

Errors that looked like this:

www examplesite com/1345202598000

Many said this was some kind of date stamp - or something -- and apparently the issue was resolved - so it was no longer a problem.

I STOPPED using Disqus 6-8 weeks ago because of this issue - I just didn't want any problems -- so I just decided to not use it at all.

The errors stopped. Great.

Now I wake up today to tons of errors - over 500 of them and they are similar to the error above, only this time it has the same keyword on the end of almost all of them. So now it's like this:

www examplesite come/1345202598000/samekeyword

The keyword is indeed one that would be found on my site and I do have a section related to it -- but why would there be all these funky errors?

It can't be Disqus anymore - I don't use it? And where is this keyword coming from on the end?

The biggest mistake I ever made was taking my 10 year old HTML site and putting it into wordpress. I thought it would be easier. HA! Hell on earth.

What's the error and where does it appear? If the error is www examplesite com/1345202598000 - where are you seeing this? In the logs? In the SERPs? On a page?

I'm seeing it in my GWT under Crawl errors. They are are 404s.

I'd do some digging to eliminate any possibility that another program or user error have created the errors. So if they're in GWT then either Google found links to them on your site or you told Google they exist. Have you used a link sniffer to find out what/if pages link to these URLs? Are you using any automated tools to generate an XML file for Google to read and if so have you looked at the XML file?

I'm not sure what a link sniffer is. I'll look it up. It's starting to really worry me because I had gotten my crawl errors down to zero and then all this weirdness.

Today I am seeing over 50 errors like this?

[www....] website .com /page /1 / same keyword
[www....] website .com /page /2 / same keyword
[www....] website .com /page /3 / same keyword
[www....] website .com /page /4 / same keyword
[www....] website .com /page /5 / same keyword
[www....] website .com /page /6 / same keyword

Try using a sitemap generator or other website crawler to index your site. Should be able to identify whether or not those URLs are indexable via your site and if so, what pages link to them. From there you should be able to resolve the issue easily enough.

i always use Xenu Link Sleuth to check for the errors and dead linjks so give it a try!
