whenever you type "http://www.widget.com/about" it will default to: "http://www.widget.com/about/" Is that what you are asking?

No, I mean the actual text of your htaccess. Adding the slash in a type-in is an entirely different process.

I assume that it's a standard - www to non-www redirect, or - add directory slash redirect; what URL did you request to get this response?

... and you're understandably confused because if my mouse-hover is giving me the right information, it says that example.com/about/ has been permanently redirected to example.com/about/ ?
