I was looking for the default version of the Windows 7 64-bit operating system
hosts file and came across this KB article on the MS support site that answers the question How do I reset the hosts file back to the default? [support.microsoft.com]

The location of the
hosts file is actually the same for the 64-bit version as it is for 32-bit. The article seems misleading. Anybody know any different?

I just checked, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit (clean install), and the hosts file is located in:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

(In C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers I have no etc folder)

Thanks for confirming marcel. I did submit feedback on the MS KB page there so hopefully they can adjust the documentation.
