Need to add SSL to a site that is 5+ years old. It has about 40 K pages indexed in GOOG. I'm not sure what to expect from clicking on a indexed GOOG page that's HTTP and the page is now HTTPS.

Do you really need to have all 40K pages HTTPS?

As HTTPS requires more processing (i.e., pages load slower), only use HTTPS for those pages that actually need it (CC processing, sensitive information, etc.).
