Stream webcams to Drupal site

Msg#: 4404368 posted 8:58 am on Jan 6, 2012 (gmt 0)

I need a solution for to stream 2 webcams to a Drupal site that will be used for customer support over video.

What I would like to help with is what streaming technology to use, if there's a good open source that I can tell a developer to customize for my needs.

Here's more details:

We only need to stream video since audio will be through the normal phoneline. The customer calls and we show them how to solve the problems through the video.

It should be possible to switch between webcam and desktop.

It should be a customized GUI in the Drupal page that allows the customer to select one of two cameras so that we can have two sessions at the same time.

Greatful for any help in what streaming solutions I should tell a webdeveloper to customize for my needs.

What you need is a media streamer on your server, you then take the output of the stream and pipe it into a player.

I have seen a lot of hosting packages have an option to install Darwin Streaming server. That is a good program with lots of online support and it should get you most of the way there.

Darwin Streaming server is an Apple Software. Looks like it's possible to get it to work on windows as well.

Do you have any alternatives for windows that supports both desktop and webcam streaming?

Embed tokbox. Free and easy. I think there is a even a module for it too.

You could also use ustream also free and pretty easy. With upstream it would be available to the public if they know your account. But you could also archive the sessions on the upstream site for later review.
