ftp and hash request
how to enable

my local ftp sync software is telling me that the remote server does not support a hash request for a file compare with the local copy. I have asked the host if this can be enabled and they dont seem to actually know. To cut to the chase on redhat/apache running pure-ftpd 1.0.29 ftp server does anyone know exactly what this is and how/if the server can be enabled for it? Thanks.

You should really switch to something more suitable (and more secure) such as rsync over ssh. What exactly are you attempting to achieve?

(FTP is fundamentally insecure, you are transmitting your password in plain-text over the wire, any decent solution will include disabling FTPD.)
