msg:3998097 | 11:24 pm on Sep 29, 2009 (gmt 0) | Is my Host messing with me ? Sites keep going down they keep trying to upsale me to the next level of VPS.. I see it is "oomguarpages " that is always going in the red zone even with "low numbers" ..all other numbers look good ..appreciate some help sorting out what is going on Memory Parameters ParameterCurrent UseSoft LimitHard LimitUnitsDescription slmmemorylimit290.815121,024MBSLM memory limit Primary System Parameters ParameterCurrent UseSoft LimitHard LimitUnitsDescription numproc79n/aUnlimitedpcsNumber of processes and kernel-level threads numtcpsock33n/a2,147,483,647pcsNumber of TCP sockets numothersock27n/a2,147,483,647pcsNumber of non-TCP sockets vmguarpages0262,144maximum4KB pagesMemory allocation guarantee avnumprocn/an/aUnlimitedpcsAverage number of processes Secondary System Parameters ParameterCurrent UseSoft LimitHard LimitUnitsDescription kmemsize21,734,2852,147,483,6472,147,483,647BytesSize of non-swappable kernel memory tcpsndbuf706,5202,147,483,6472,147,483,647BytesTotal size of send buffers for TCP sockets tcprcvbuf540,6722,147,483,6472,147,483,647BytesTotal size of receive buffers for TCP sockets othersockbuf26,5442,147,483,6472,147,483,647BytesTotal size of UNIX-domain socket buffers, UDP and other datagram protocols send buffers dgramrcvbuf6482,147,483,6472,147,483,647BytesTotal size of receive buffers of UDP and other datagram protocols oomguarpages 70,997 65,536 maximum 4KB pagesOut-of-memory guarantee privvmpages118,6342,147,483,6472,147,483,6474KB pagesSize of Container private memory Auxiliary System Parameters

msg:3998126 | 12:07 am on Sep 30, 2009 (gmt 0) | Possibly. oomguarpages is your RAM guarantee - the real question is: why are you exceeding your memory allocation? How much RAM should you be getting? Unfortunately I'm not an expert with OpenVZ implementations (I assume this is what you have) so I don't have a real response - perhaps others using a VPS of this type could comment?

msg:3998171 | 1:25 am on Sep 30, 2009 (gmt 0) | Thanks Encyclo.. I have 1 Gig of ram and at the moment it is showing Memory Parameters Parameter Current UseSoft LimitHard Limit Units Description slmmemory limit 248.51 512 1,024MBSLM memory limit so 248 used.. just cruizing down the highway.. no issues with that or disc space (60% used) etc.. But even with those numbers oomguarpages is in the Red Zone even though my Soft Limit is below the 65 they have it set at.. Current Softlimit 59,547 65,536 maximum 4KB pagesOut-of-memory guarantee I am looking at it through Parallels VPs manager

msg:3998180 | 1:36 am on Sep 30, 2009 (gmt 0) | Also note .. I noticed this Text when Highlighting the "red zone "image" -Red Zone: Critical situation. The parameter exceeded its soft limit or came very close to the hard limit. Your next resource allocations request may be refused. And Yet all of my resources are well within limits..except this oomguarpages Host has Softlimit set at 65,536 and "maximum" for Hardlimit.. I suspect I was given low 'max" ? While I have the "Red Zone" for oomguarpages ....I am only using 24% of total mem.. So I don't get it Memory Usage ResourceUsedFreeTotal Memory 244.2 MB23.85% 779.8 MB1 GB There very well may be an valid explanation but I haven't gotten one form them ..just that I am using more resources than allocated

msg:3998573 | 3:13 pm on Sep 30, 2009 (gmt 0) | UPDATE: I was on the right track .(hey it actually happens once in awhile;) They upped the Softlimit on oomguarpages to reflect the Plan I actually purchased. The Plan I purchased was originally 256MB Ram ..they were running a special and doubling Ram, Bandwidth etc..on all the Plans when they set the VPS they didn't double all the settings... So I was Red Zonning and sites were going down. Savings $35 x 12= $420 (If I had simply moved to the next size Plan)
