Such options exist and are called reverse proxies. An easy way to implement it is to run a Linux server as public frontend which is installed with specific proxy software like Squid. General webserver software like Apache can also be configured to function as a reverse proxy server. An advantage of using proxy software over a hardware load balancer is that it can also be configured to cache static parts of your sites (images, CSS files etc) reducing the number of requests issued to the backend webservers.
