I own a small business with a total of 5 people in the office. I am in the market for a server and I have a couple of questions for the experts. I am looking to buy used and I found one on craigslist I think would work. It is a poweredge 830 with server 2003 installed. Would this OS include exchange server? Basically we are going to use it for backups, shared folders, and for exchange so we have shared folders, calenders, and distribution lists in outlook. The deal is is server with a P4, 8 gig memory, nic, ect... also included is a SMart UPS, dat tape backup. He wants $900. From my research the most expensive thing for the server is the OS so it seems like this is a good price. It has 5 licenses. Comments?
I do have an IT guy that knows how to run everything.

Windows 2003 does not include Exchange. Do you have a dedicated IP at your office? Do you have reliable power? You'll need both to make this work. Does your IT guy know about DNS? Has he ever managed an Exchange server before? Do you know you will have to get good virus scanning and anti-spam software on your server? An email server acting as a local file server kind of gives me the willies... Enter with caution.
