| Font tag not in HTML 5 - what should emails use to size text?

I mean is the assumption that all email will have to use CSS? I thought some email readers do not... and therefore we should all use <font> tags, no? J

msg:4523081 | 1:48 am on Nov 28, 2012 (gmt 0) | Oh, how tempting it is to say: You should simply continue using whatever tag you've been using for the past 10 years for all other purposes, after alternatives to <font> came into existence. Other possible answers are: Do you have solid evidence for thinking that e-mail restricts itself to tags permitted in a language that officially doesn't exist yet? and There are always inline styles. <style = "font-family: blahblah; font-size: blahblah"> et cetera.
